Mangalore, Oct 17:  The Chess Association  inaugurated the national level chess championship for under 10 and 14  years of age for boys and girls at Lobo’s Riverview, Morgansgate, here  on Sunday October 16. Deric Pinto, the president of Karnataka State  Chess Association played a blitz game against Mangalorean chess prodigy  Arjun Adappa to inaugurate the CAI chess championship.
Chief guest Mahesh Ved, vice president of the Chess Association of India opined Karnataka’s CAI unit is doing excellently after it got it’s chess playing president as real sports persons can genuinely understand the need of players. He said he will apprise CAI to allot more age group championships to Karnataka.




Another chief guest Navin Shetty, president of Mangalore Basketball  Club applauded organizers for organizing Championship in a riverside  resort.  He said CAI should plan about such event in Beachside like  Panambur. He came out harsh on the irregularities and heavy fee charged  by AICF and said CAI should also plan for a chess league which can even  more popularize the game.
Prasanna Rao, joint secretary, CAI presided the function. Ian Lobo of Lobo’s Riverside; Chandrashekhar Bhandary, arbiter were also present on the dais.
More than 140 players from different CAI affiliated units are participating in this prestigious 2nd Edition of the championship. Boys category will have eight round and girls will have seven round swiss league. Event carries total prize fund of Rs 3 lacs.
